Julius from the Sales Team reflects on his two years at Getsafe, sharing what he enjoys most about being part of the team, his collaboration with our sales leadership, advice for new starters, and his excitement for Getsafe’s future growth.
What initially led you to join Getsafe?
Julius: So, I actually joined Getsafe back in July 2022. Before that, I was with R+V, a pretty traditional insurance company… and then COVID hit. The office was closed, commissions weren’t great, so when someone from Getsafe reached out on LinkedIn, it felt like the perfect timing for me. Getsafe just sounded totally different from what I was used to - digital advisory, remote/hybrid work, and a more dynamic working environment. I really liked what I read, and it just seemed like the right moment to try something fresh and exciting.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Getsafe Sales Team?
Julius: Sales here is honestly a wild ride (laughs). Something new happens every day, especially at Getsafe! We’re a bit of a crazy bunch to put it mildly; you’ll definitely see that if you hang around long enough.. But it’s such a supportive environment! Everyone’s got each other's backs, we keep each other motivated, and we’re all working toward the same goal, which is really motivating.
When it comes to the role itself, I really appreciate that all customers are already familiar with Getsafe. We invest a lot in pre-sales, and we have an amazing team of Sales Service Agents for both our German- and English-speaking customers who handle the lead qualification. This means all the appointments are pre-scheduled, and I can fully focus on providing quality consultations. I typically handle about five to seven calls a day, meaning around 30 appointments each week. It’s definitely fast-paced, but I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Can you share your experience with the onboarding process and how it helped you adjust to your role?
Julius: Honestly, it was one of the best onboarding experiences I’ve ever had. Right after I joined, I got to go to the Getsafe summer event and meet everyone, which was awesome. Then, I had the two weeks of onboarding in Heidelberg with the other new starters. And not long after that, I quickly jumped into client calls. I felt like I was a trusted member of the team from day one, which really gave me a confidence boost.
In what ways have you experienced personal and professional growth since joining Getsafe?
Julius: I’ve learned a ton, especially around working from home, which takes some self-discipline (laughs).
Before Getsafe, I’d never worked with health insurance, but now it’s a key part of what I do. If you’re lacking some knowledge, it’s no problem here - you just need to be open to learning and motivated to keep growing. The goal is for every consultant at Getsafe to be able to provide comprehensive advice on all of our life and health products, and the team really puts in a lot of time and effort into each consultant’s growth to get them there as quickly as possible!
What do you appreciate most about the sales leadership team? How do they support you in your role?
Julius: They’re always there when you need them. Of course they expect quality work, but if you’re putting in the effort, they’ve got your back.
For example, if there’s a high-stakes client call and I need advice, I can always ask Marcus, my Team Lead, or someone from the leadership team for support, and they’ll step in.
Also new joiners can always reach out, book time with Team Leads or Ante, our Head of Sales. It’s a super flat hierarchy here - everyone’s approachable and supported, no matter where you’re at skill-wise.
How does Getsafe's flexibility benefit your work-life balance?
Julius: Oh, it's great! If I have a personal appointment or something comes up, it’s not an issue. I just block out the time and let my team lead know. We really rely on trust in our work here. Personally, I like having my mornings to prepare for the day, and I usually schedule most of my calls later on.
Afternoons and evenings are popular for client calls since most clients prefer connecting after their own workday. But some team members prefer to wrap up by 5:30pm, and that's totally fine, too. It’s very self-directed, so everyone can find the balance that works best for them I’d say.
What aspects of the sales role do you find most rewarding or challenging?
Julius: I’d definitely say using my expertise to help customers understand life and health insurance and guiding them to make smart life choices for their future. But it also feels really rewarding to support the team, covering for each other and working toward the same goal.
Josie: That’s really great to hear! And what about the challenging part?
Julius: The challenge is that I'm ultimately responsible for my own revenue and hitting our monthly sales target. It's on me to maintain the quality of my work, but I guess having that mix of support and accountability makes it really rewarding.
How do communication and teamwork work within the Sales Team, especially in a remote environment?
Julius: So, we’re all connected through Slack, which makes it super easy to get help whenever something comes up. We have a main Sales channel with all the consultants, agents, and team leads - there are about 70 of us now I think. I’m also part of the Expat Team, so I’m in our Expat Channel, too.
If I have a question while I’m on a call with a client, I just drop it in the chat, and usually someone replies quickly enough for me to share that info right away. But if I’m not sure about something, I just let the client know I’ll follow up later - there’s no need to pretend to know everything!
And there’s of course social stuff too! We have coffee chats, Friday night digital beers, and our weekly Sales Get-Up, where people from other departments share company updates, which is cool because we get to hear what’s going on outside of Sales.
Josie: Sounds amazing! So, it feels like there’s definitely room for connecting and celebrating as well?
Julius: For sure! The team really focuses on building a sense of community, and we also have regular team events to celebrate our wins. Getsafe recently had a big strategy week event in Heidelberg, and we, as the Sales team, definitely made the most of it. We had activities like a boat trip, cookouts, and evenings with our insurers. It was a packed week - super fun, but also pretty exhausting! It's always great to see the team, but I’m also happy to come back home and recharge again (laughs).
What excites you about where Getsafe is headed and your role in that?
Julius: I think we in Sales are really proud of the work we do and the revenue we bring in for Getsafe, because it ultimately contributes to the company launching major projects, like our recent launch of Safepoints (Getsafe’s new rewards program). To be honest, I think it feels great to know that we’re making a contribution here and having an impact!
Josie: That sounds wonderful, and you and your team are definitely doing an incredible job here! But is there anything you wish for in the future though?
Julius: Personally, I’d love to see Getsafe become even more visible. Let’s really get our name out there— there’s still so much potential, and I’d love to see us keep growing and making our mark!
What advice would you give to new consultants joining the team?
Julius: If I had to give some advice, I’d say be open to everything. Connect with people, ask questions, listen. If someone told me two years ago I’d be advising clients in English all day, I wouldn’t have believed them. So stay open-minded, and don’t feel like you need to know it all right away.
What qualities do you think someone needs to really thrive in the Sales Team?
Julius: It’s all about hard work, openness, a willingness to learn, and, of course, determination. With those, you’ll do great here!
Josie: Thank you, Julius, for sharing your experiences with us!
